FieldFactors raises €1.65M to scale innovative rainwater capture systems across Europe and Latin America

DELFT, The Netherlands (July 2025) –Dutch startup secures new funding to help more cities turn rain into a local resource and build climate resilience.

FieldFactors, the Dutch startup turning rain into a local resource, has raised €1.65 million to expand its innovative rainwater reuse systems. The funding round, which was oversubscribed, drew interest from investors across Europe, the US and Latin America. It brings together a group of backers who share FieldFactors’s mission to make cities greener, healthier and more climate-resilient.

Led by Dutch impact investor Connect the Drops, the round also includes participation with Tailwind Climate, Amplifica Capital, Vanzal Limited and the Water Innovation Fund. The investors bring not only capital, but also strategic value and extensive sector-specific expertise and network across various regions.

“This funding marks a key milestone for FieldFactors as we shift from pilot projects to large-scale implementation. We are proud to work with cities, developers and corporate partners to make urban water systems more circular, resilient and future-proof.”
— Karina Peña, CEO and co-founder of FieldFactors.

A scalable solution for a global problem

As cities face more frequent droughts, floods and rising temperatures, FieldFactors offers a simple but powerful solution: don’t waste rain, reuse it. Their technology, called BlueBloqs, captures rainwater where it falls, purifies it through natural biofiltration, and stores it underground for local reuse—such as irrigating green spaces, cooling buildings, or recharging aquifers.

Already in operation in cities like Rotterdam, The Hague, and Madrid, BlueBloqs has proven effective in reducing stormwater runoff, lowering potable water use, and creating greener, cooler urban environments.

“We help cities stop wasting rainwater. By reusing it locally, we reduce stress on infrastructure and support greener, healthier neighbourhoods.”
— Karina Peña, CEO & Co-founder of FieldFactors

Strategic growth backed by impact investors

The new funding will empower FieldFactors to accelerate its growth and expand its global reach. With this investment, the company will scale up production of its BlueBloqs technology, paving the way for wider market adoption. It will also set up operations in key European markets and launch its first projects in Mexico—marking the beginning of its expansion into Latin America.

To support this exciting new phase, FieldFactors will strengthen its technical and commercial teams, ensuring the capacity to meet growing demand and deliver positive impact at scale.

Why Mexico

Latin America is already facing severe water challenges. In Mexico, flooding and water scarcity are serious problems. Intense rainfall inundates streets, causing over $230 million in damage annually. At the same time, the country is projected to face severe water shortages by 2040 due to climate change (Cruz Ayala and Megdal, 2020). This is why Mexico needs to invest in alternative water supply solutions.

“Mexico shows exactly why circular water systems are urgently needed. It’s the ideal place to start bringing our solution to Latin America.”

— Karina Peña, CEO & Co-founder of FieldFactors

Building cities that work with nature

FieldFactors is part of a global shift toward smarter, greener city infrastructure— solutions that don’t just reduce harm, but actively improve life. By working with nature, FieldFactors helps cities future-proof their water systems while creating more livable urban spaces and supporting broader sustainability goals.

“We help cities capture every drop and reuse it smartly. Our goal is simple: make rain part of the solution, not the problem.”
— Karina Peña, CEO & Co-founder of FieldFactors

What our investors are saying

FieldFactors’ management team celebrates a successful collaboration with their partner Connect The Drops.

“The elegance of the BlueBloqs system is that the concept is simple to explain and it will convince a lot of people of the benefits. FieldFactors had the product and the team to deliver its impact at scale, helping communities to rethink their rainwater management.”

— Jan Otto Ooms, Partner at Connect The Drops.

“FieldFactors is redefining how cities and industries manage water. Their technology not only cuts stormwater discharge costs by up to 20% and reduces potable water use by as much as 80%, but also delivers real environmental and financial value. What sets them apart is their ability to serve both industrial clients and local communities—like in their recent aquifer recharge project with Microsoft in Madrid. With strong traction in Mexico and a team deeply committed to livable, green cities, we’re excited to help them grow their impact across Latin America”.
