The Urban Waterbuffer makes the Zorrilla soccer stadium in Valladolid climate resilient.

The city of Valladolid, like many other cities in Spain, is vulnerable to the effects of drought and heavy rainfall. This entails many negative consequences, such as a higher risk of flood damage, higher maintenance costs and impacts on ecosystems. A circular water system will soon be built here to meet these challenges. “Thanks to this new rainwater reuse project, Valladolid will become a groundbreaking and innovative example for sustainable urban water management in Spain.” (Text in Dutch)

A climate resilient square on TGV

Heath and drought: important subjects we need to take action on. Are you looking for a way to make your project climate resilient? As a visitor of The Green Village, soon you’ll walk around on their ‘‘Heatsquare’’: a place where three concrete climate adaptive solutions and innovations are demonstrated. They all aim to make cities more resistant to the consequences of rises in temperature which in turn reduces the risk of heat stress. We will be testing our newest biofilter here. To be continued!

Testing Bluebloqs Biofilter to treat stormwater runoff

Maintaining good surface water quality and dealing with drought are growing challenges in urban areas. To help municipalities, water authorities and end-users adapt to climate change, we have developed Bluebloqs technology. Bluebloqs Biofilter is part of our circular system to enable rainwater storage and reuse in urban areas.

Participatory budgeting for climate adaptation

How can we define the value different measures provide to the end-users and how can we involve inhabitants when planning for climate adaptation? Together with researchers from the TU Delft and the Municipality of The Hague, we are conducting a research into the value inhabitants derive from grey and infrastructure to prevent pluvial flooding.

Rapid prototyping in our design process

Now that the realisation of the first full-scale pilot application of our Bluebloqs system in Spangen is coming up, we would like to give some insights in how we are able to reach this point in development. During the product design process, different aspects often need to be tested to find the best solution.
